Writing equation of a perpendicular line given a new point and an equation

by Peggy Cole on Sep 19, 2013

1. Find the new slope by taking the negative reciprocal of the old slope 2. Plug the point and new slope into your equation (either point-slope, or slope intercept) 3. Rearrange (or solve for b) into slope intercept form Negative reciprocal means to "flip" the slope and change the sign....i.e. -5 becomes 1/5
