Open Box Problem - Surface Area

by Kathryn Stewart on Oct 15, 2012

Oops! Error in middle (answer is correct). I switched the sense of the inequality. I should have circled parabola under curve. 2.A small rectangular reflecting pool is 12m by 6m by 2m. A landscaper wishes to increase the size of the reflecting pool with up to 472 m2 of liner. The landscaper’s design increases each of the dimensions of the smaller pool by an equal amount, so that the surface area is, at most, 472 m2. What are the maximum dimensions of the new, larger reflecting pool?
